Doppler Ultrasound:

Doppler Ultrasound is a special ultrasound technique that evaluates blood as it flows through a blood vessel, including the body’s major arteries and veins in the abdomen, arms, legs and neck.

  • Venous Doppler – The most common reason for a venous ultrasound exam is to search for blood clots, especially in the veins of the leg. This exam will take approximately 30 minutes.

  • Arterial Doppler – This study is able to demonstrate blocked or reduced blood flow through the major arteries of the arms and legs. It is used to evaluate circulation in the hands, arms, feet and legs. This exam will take approximately 1 hour.

  • Carotid Doppler – This study is a test that shows the carotid arteries (vessels in the neck that provide blood flow to the brain), and evaluates blood flow through these arteries. This exam will take approximately 30 minutes.
